Urban & Community Forestry Funds Available!
Alabama communities and eligible groups can apply for USDA Forest Service funds for urban forestry projects.  This year, $329,300 is available to help Alabama towns and cities meet important urban forestry program needs, such as hiring city foresters, community tree assessments, master tree planting plans, citizen workshops, urban forestry demonstrations, and much, much more.  For more information, contact Mr. Neil Letson. Visit the U&CF website for detailed application information. .

Auburn University also needs your help to spread the word throughout the Alabama. Even if your organization decides not to submit an application, help us tell others that these funds are available. Good luck!

National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council
The NUCFAC sustains urban forests by encouraging communities to manage and protect their natural resources. The Challenge Cost-Share Grant Program seeks research projects that examine the effects of urban forest resources on humans, projects that increase the public's understanding of the value of the urban forest, and projects that develop ideas to stimulate the development of additional funding for urban forestry.

Active Living by Design
This is a national program of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and is a part of the UNC School of Public Health in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The program will establish and evaluate innovative approaches to increase physical activity through community design, public policies and communications strategies.

Call for Proposals Community partnerships will be funded to develop, implement and sustain collaboration among a variety of organizations in public health and other disciplines, such as city planning, transportation, architecture, recreation, crime prevention, traffic safety and education, as well as key advocacy groups concentrating on land use, public transit, non-motorized travel, public spaces, parks, trails, and architectural practices that advance physical activity.

This might be a great opportunity for our partners and cooperators to promote urban trails and other efforts that advance physical activity and public health.
