Branching Out: New Perspectives on Urban Forestry reflects the growing importance of urban forestry and its relationship to urban design, community planning and quality of life. Sessions offer emerging viewpoints on the dollar value of the urban canopy; bio-retention; tree lighting; and the use of trees for water conservation. Learn the latest methods in vertical mulching, lightning protection, cabling/bracing, micro-injection and more.

Experts share ideas on project funding. A guided tour of Hoover aboard a luxury motorcoach shows urban forestry trends including Alabama’s newest botanical garden.

Want to get everyone in town involved? Find out how to have a successful volunteer tree-planting program like Trees Atlanta, a non-profit citizens’ group dedicated to protecting and improving the urban environment by planting, maintaining and conserving trees. They have planted over 17,000 large shade trees in downtown and midtown Atlanta and 60,000 young shade trees throughout metro-Atlanta. Last year,
their volunteers planted 2,200 trees and distributed over 3,000 more to citizens to plant.

NATURE HIKE AT MOSS ROCK PRESERVE - 8 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Take a Guided hike through one of the state’s most beautiful preserves - a natural
treasure trove of trails, rock outcroppings, streams and waterfalls located in the
heart of Hoover. Recently designated a city park, the 250-acre preserve is home
to endangered plants and wildlife, boulder fields and sandstone glades.
Rated: Beginner-to-intermediate.

ISA CERTIFIED ARBORIST TESTING - 9:00 a.m. check-in; 9:30 a.m.
Exam for Arborist Certification, Tree Worker Certification and Utility Certification. Hoover Public Library, 200 Municipal Drive, Hoover.
