Legacy, Inc., Partners in Environmental Education received the 2003 Outstanding Educational Organization Award as part of the Annual Convention of the Alabama Urban Forestry Association (AUFA). Brian Key, public relations and marketing manager, accepted the award for Legacy&Mac226;s commitment to urban forestry initiatives. Most notably, the organization developed "Common Trees of Alabama," a poster which has been distributed at various conferences and public events reaching students, teachers and adults throughout the state. The city of Dothan received the 2003 AUFA Tree City Award as part of the Annual Convention of the Alabama Urban Forestry Association (AUFA). Nancy Walker, city horticulturist, accepted the award for Dothan's commitment to urban forestry initiatives.

Florence resident, Lewis B. Williams received the 2003 Outstanding Individual Award as part of the Annual Convention of the Alabama Urban Forestry Association (AUFA).

Lewis Williams was honored at the awards banquet for his long-term commitment to urban forestry initiatives, including his efforts in the development of a Department of Urban Forestry in the City of Florence. Appointed to the Florence Tree Commission in 1992, Williams expanded the annual tree-care workshop to include not only city workers, but also tree commission members and surrounding cities. |
