Getting Back to Nature

GETTING BACK TO NATURE reflects the trend to incorporate more green spaces in urban design and community planning. We’ll look at suburban communities that have been designed around their existing urban forest.

We’ll also take a look at some plants from Alabama's past and some new “natives.” Presentations will address how weather and the urban canopy impact one another, tree diseases, integrated pest management, and trends in technology. Learn about the forestry and urban planning trends of the future. Enjoy demonstrations, workshops and a chance to network with urban forestry leaders from around the state.

the original 1850 industrial buildings along the banks of
beautiful Autauga Creek. Today, the district is undergoing an exciting
revitalization to preserve Pratt's legacy by restoring streets, buildings,
unique shops, eateries, and a planned creek walk. While in town, visit
historic homes, Pratt Cemetery & Overlook, Prattaugan Museum, and
Old Prattvillage & Gardens. Enjoy Heritage Park, Pratt Park and
Wilderness Park, a nationally-designated wilderness within the city
limits featuring a biome between a Southern native forest and a
majestic bamboo forest. See the awe-inspiring giant Oriental
bamboo, soaring 60 feet upwards. The state's second largest beech
tree grows in the 26-acre park.

DIRECTIONS From I-65 take Prattville exit (#179). Turn onto
Cobbs Ford Road going toward downtown Prattville (There is a
Holiday Inn on the hill at this exit). At the first stop light turn left
onto Hwy 6. As you come down the hill, you will see six columns on
the left. Turn left at the columns, the entrance to the Robert Trent
Jones Capitol Hill Course. Take your first left and then the next right
into the Legends parking lot.
